A $30 million program, finally in view.
A financial services membership organization was running a multi-year, $30 million program with no accurate or timely view of it. Its enterprise project tool was only being used to report time. Digineer set the process and tool standards, added plan audits and quality checks, and built executive dashboards that gave leaders near real-time visibility.

The situation
A strategic program nobody could see clearly
The program was highly strategic and visible across the organization. A great deal of capital and people were already committed to it, and managing it well was critical. Yet leaders lacked accurate, timely information about where it stood.
The organization had installed Microsoft Project Server, but used it only as a time reporting system, not as a full enterprise project management solution. It needed more capacity and control over program metrics, and it needed them quickly.
Warning signs
- A major program without timely status
- A project tool used only to report time
- No shared project management standards
- Project managers buried in admin work
- Weak cost and resource forecasting
What we did
Process first, then the tool
Digineer reviewed the existing environment and documented requirements for using the tool on the program. Then it put its recommendations in place, starting with agreement on how projects would be managed.
Standards people agree on
Digineer defined process and tool standards and gained agreement on project management processes, then customized the implementation to the issues at hand.
Audits and quality checks
Project plan audits and program quality assurance processes kept plans accurate. Digineer also assessed the environment’s performance and scalability.
Dashboards and training
An executive dashboard reporting system, with project and program status reports. Training and mentoring ran through the whole engagement so the team could keep it going.
The outcome
Visibility leaders could act on
Near real-time visibility
Leaders gained accurate, nearly real-time visibility into the $30 million program.
More productive project managers
Process changes cut the administrative time project managers spent, which raised their productivity.
Better forecasting
Dashboard reporting gave management greater cost, resource and forecasting intelligence.
More value from an existing tool
A tool that only tracked time became a working enterprise project management solution for the program.
