1,200 reports, now seven.
An assessment and survey services company produced 1,200 static reports for a key client, and only one person could generate them. The client wanted on-demand web reports on near real-time survey data, and the alternative on offer meant new licenses and another platform. Digineer built seven dynamic reports on the platform already in place and avoided more than $150,000 in licensing.

The situation
Static reports and a single point of failure
A key client used static HTML reports for its monthly and quarterly results. It wanted a web-based solution that created reports on demand from almost real-time data in a survey database.
Producing the 1,200 existing reports was expensive and slow, and only one internal person could do it. Another vendor had proposed a solution, but it was costly and needed extra licensing and support for another application platform.
Warning signs
- 1,200 static reports to maintain
- Only one person able to produce them
- Monthly and quarterly data, never on demand
- A vendor option with new license costs
- Another platform to support
What we did
Rebuild the reporting on what was already there
Digineer re-architected the reporting structure, converting static HTML reports into a small set of dynamic ones. The work stayed on the company’s existing Microsoft platform, so there was nothing new to license or support.
Seven dynamic reports
Digineer used Microsoft Analysis and Reporting Services to deliver the survey data, replacing 1,200 static reports with seven dynamic reports that run on demand.
Secure web access
Digineer shared expertise on integrating the reports securely into the web application. The reporting services site stays behind a firewall.
A team that can run it
Training sessions showed the development team how to build and deploy the reports, on a generic framework that does not need specialized skills.
The outcome
Lower cost and no single point of failure
$150,000+ in licensing avoided
Because the reports run on the existing platform, the client saved more than $150,000 in new licensing fees.
Many hands, not one
All developers can now work within and validate the solution, instead of relying on a single person.
Easier quality assurance
The quality assurance team has direct access to the system, so it can see how business rules are defined and implemented.
Delivered to a tight deadline
The company learned new technology and still developed the reports within an extremely tight timeframe, and delivered the solution to its client.
Business intelligence
Maintaining hundreds of reports that could be a handful?
Digineer simplifies reporting on the platforms you already own, so more of your team can support it.
